How to Clean Your DVD?

Cleaning your DVDs can entail several steps and different processes. However, it all comes down to the condition of your discs. This could range from a simple wipe with a clean cloth to a complete makeover. In case your discs only have a little dirt accumulated over the surface, a wipe with a clean cloth will be more than enough. However, if the condition of your DVDs is much worse, then simply follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Gather Your Equipment – For cleaning DVDs, you will need a soft microfibre cloth, water, and isopropyl alcohol (commonly known as rubbing alcohol).

Step 2: Place You Disc on a Soft Cloth – Since discs are extremely fragile, they must be handled with the utmost care while being cleaned. This includes setting the disc label-side down on a soft tablecloth or any other clean cloth.

Step 3: Analyse the Disc’s Condition – You need to determine the scale of cleaning required based on the condition of the disc. If the surface has some dust on it, a simple rinse and dry will be fine. However, if a massive amounts of dust is layered over the disc, a complete cleaning treatment will be required.

Step 4: Spray Alcohol Over the Disc – If your alcohol is in a spray container, simply give it a few pumps over the disc. If its a bottle-like container, drop a few generous drops throughout the surface of the disc.

Step 5: Wipe the Alcohol Off – With a clean microfibre cloth, wipe away the isopropyl alcohol from the disc’s surface. Do this in straight lines, as this will ensure that every part of the disc is coated with a layer of the alcohol.

Step 6: Rinse the DVD – Rinse the disc under lukewarm water and ensure no dust, dirt fragments, and alcohol remains on the surface.

Step 7: Dry the Disc – Once the disc has been rinsed under water, simply dry it off with a clean microfibre cloth, wiping it in straight lines so that the disc’s surface does not get damaged.

Step 8: Test the Disc – After the cleaning process is complete, test your DVD by running it. If it works perfectly fine, it means the cleaning treatment was a success, leaving behind a brand new DVD for you.

Conclusion

Regularly cleaning your DVDs is essential for their longevity, however, this process holds even more value if you regularly use your discs, exposing them to all sorts of dust, dirt, and grime on a daily basis. Simply follow the above-mentioned cleaning process and you will have a DVD that is as good as new.
